Dr. Raja Abusharr, MD, FAAFP
Dr. Abusharr received his M.D. from Oregon Health Sciences University in 2000 with a scholarship from the National Health Servies Corp. Dedicated to becoming a “physician for all people” Dr. Abusharr completed his residency in Family Medicine at Lancaster General Hospital, one of the oldest and most prestigious programs in the country. He began his medical career as the medical director of a community health center in south-eastern Missouri where he and his family remained until early 2006 when the family moved to Texas. During those two and half years in Missouri he established one of the most reputable medical clinics in the community. Dr. Abusharr proudly completed his NHSC scholarship obligation in Splendora Texas in winter 2006 while preparing to open his own practice. Family Medicine at Sterling Ridge opened its doors on August 27, 2007 and to date over 10,000 patients have registered at their office. He is the father of two amazing daughters ages 12 and 13 and when he is not practicing medicine, he loves taking photographs, gardening outside and listening to jazz music.
Dr. Gregory Boyle, PhD, DSc, FAPS
Dr. Boyle is an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Previously he served as Professor of Psychology at Bond University for over 20 years, and as Associate Dean for Research for several years. A Fellow of both the Australian Psychological Society and the Association for Psychological Science, Dr. Boyle has received the Buros Institute of Mental Measurements Distinguished Reviewer Award and was honored with conferral of a prestigious Doctorate of Science degree from the University of Queensland. In addition to giving invited talks at many leading institutions including Princeton, Stanford, and Oxford, Dr. Boyle has contributed to over 200 publications, is co-author of scholarly books, and is senior editor of several international psychology handbooks. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals on the psychosexual harm caused by circumcision.
Dr. Teri M. Mitchell, APRN, CNM, IBCLC
Dr. Mitchell has dual certifications as a Certified Nurse Midwife and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She is the owner and provider at BundleBorn Midwifery, a full-scope midwifery and lactation practice in Frisco, Texas. She primarily attends to women who choose to birth at home.
Dr. Mitchell is a passionate human rights activist. She is a board member of the professional organization Nurses for the Rights of the Child, and has helped develop Your Whole Baby materials for midwives. In her home state, she co-manages North Texas Natural Parenting. She can be found at local festivals and international conferences, educating parents and professionals about the practice of male infant circumcision in the United States. Her doctoral capstone study was dedicated to educating expecting parents, in hopes that they could make a well-informed and confident decision for their baby. The results of her study were published in The Journal of Perinatal Education and titled Shared Decision Making for Routine Infant Circumcision: A Pilot Study.
Dr. Jórunn Vidar Valgardsdottir, MD, FM
Dr. Valgardsdottir studied medicine at the University of Iceland and then moved to Sweden where she specialized in family medicine. In 2005, she moved back to Iceland and has worked in HSU Selfoss for twelve years. Dr. Valgardsdottir explains, "In my country circumcision is a non-issue and never performed. In 20 years of work as a family physician I have never had to send a boy/man to have his foreskin removed."
Dr. Adrienne Carmack, Urologist
Dr. Carmack is a board-certified urologist and mother of three children, none of whom are circumcised. She is the author of Reclaiming My Birth Rights: A Mother’s Wisdom Triumphs Over the Harmful Practices of Her Medical Profession and The Good Mommy’s Guide to Her Little Boy’s Penis.
Amy Wright Glenn, Author & Doula
Amy Wright Glenn earned her MA in Religion and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is a Kripalu Yoga teacher, Birthing Mama® Prenatal Yoga and Wellness Teacher Trainer, (CD)DONA birth doula, hospital chaplain, and founder of the Institute for the Study of Birth, Breath, and Death. Amy is a regular contributor to PhillyVoice and author of Birth, Breath, and Death: Meditations on Motherhood, Chaplaincy, and Life as a Doula.
David J. Llewellyn, BA, JD
Mr. Llewellyn is a trial lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia, who concentrates his practice in genital injury litigation. Graduating in 1979 from the University of Virginia School of Law, Mr. Llewellyn first worked in general civil litigation. In 1988 he opened his own law practice; and in 1995 he tried his first genital injury case, one for wrongful circumcision, in Montgomery, Alabama. He has handled or assisted in over 20 wrongful circumcision cases, over 44 negligently performed circumcision cases, and 4 forced retraction of infant foreskin cases. He has appeared pro hac vice in state or federal court in at least 23 states. Mr. Llewellyn has presented at several of the International Symposia on Genital Autonomy, including those in Oxford, England (1998), Washington, D.C. (2002), Padua, Italy (2004), Seattle, Washington (2006), Berkeley, California (2010), Boulder, Colorado (2014), and San Francisco, California (2018). His website is TheCircumcisionLawyer.com.
Marilyn Fayre Milos, RN
Marilyn Fayre Milos co-founded the National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers (NOCIRC) in 1985. In 1989, she co-founded the International Symposia on Circumcision, now called the International Symposia on Genital Autonomy and Children's Rights, and since then she has organized fourteen international symposia. She co-edited the proceedings of the first symposium for publication in The Truth Seeker magazine, and she has also co-edited eight books published by Springer. She has published numerous educational pamphlets on subjects surrounding genital autonomy. In January 2016, NOCIRC was renamed Genital Autonomy – America, and the organization continues working to protect the bodily integrity and genital autonomy rights of all infants and children.
Lisa Braver Moss, Author
Lisa Braver Moss is a writer whose essays have appeared in the Huffington Post, Parents, Tikkun, Lilith, Jewish Journal and other publications. A leading voice in the Jewish movement to question circumcision, she is the author of The Measure of His Grief (Notim Press, 2010), the first novel ever written about the circumcision controversy. Lisa's nonfiction book credits include Celebrating Family: Our Lifelong Bonds with Parents and Siblings (Wildcat Canyon Press, 1999) and, as co-author, The Mother's Companion: A Comforting Guide to the Early Years of Motherhood (Council Oak Books, 2001). She is co-author, with Rebecca Wald, of Celebrating Brit Shalom (Notim Press, 2015), the first-ever book of ceremonies and music for Jewish families opting out of circumcision. Lisa also conceived and spearheaded the movement toward open inclusion of non-circumcising families in Jewish life.
Dr. Darcia Narvaez, Psychology Professor
Darcia Narvaez is Professor of Psychology at the University of Notre Dame who focuses on moral development and flourishing from an interdisciplinary perspective. Dr. Narvaez’s current research explores how early life experience and societal culture interact to influence virtuous character in children and adults. She integrates neurobiological, clinical, developmental and education sciences in her theories, research and writing about moral development, parenting and education. She has identified the evolved nest as critical for moral formation, multi-ethics meta-theory as a framework for how moral mindsets can shift or become dispositional from experience, integrative ethical education (via RAVES: relationship, apprenticeship, virtue exemplars, ethical expertise, self-authorship), and indigenous wisdom for fostering optimal moral functioning (relational attunement and communal imagination). She is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Educational Research Association. She has authored or edited more than 20 books and many papers. Her recent books include: Indigenous Sustainable Wisdom: First Nation Know-how for Global Flourishing (edited with Four Arrows, E. Halton, B. Collier, & G. Enderle); Basic Needs, Wellbeing and Morality: Fulfilling Human Potential and Embodied Morality: Protectionism, Engagement and Imagination. One of her recent authored books, Neurobiology and the Development of Human Morality: Evolution, Culture and Wisdom, won the 2015 William James Book Award from the American Psychological Association and the 2017 Expanded Reason Award. She writes a popular blog for Psychology Today (“Moral Landscapes”) and hosts the webpage EvolvedNest.org.
Angela Saltalamacchia, BSN, RN
In 2013, Angela received her LPN, graduating in the top three of her class. She worked in Family Medicine and Urgent Care while studying for her RN at Quincy College and went on with a full academic scholarship to receive her BSN from Chamberlain College. After graduating, she first worked in Geriatrics and Home Care, where she taught CNAs how to care for the intact penis and advocated for elderly men keeping their whole bodies. Now Angela is an ER nurse at a Level 3 trauma center where she cares for both pediatric and adult patients.
Angela is a mom to three intact kids. The father of her children is from Ireland where families don't circumcise. She is an admin in Your Whole Baby: A Community for Learning and Raising Your Whole Baby, and is beginning a nursing school outreach project to change curricula to reflect best practices in intact care and circumcision education.
Travis Wisdom, BA, MA, LLM
Travis Wisdom is a PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide, South Australia. He completed a BA in Women’s Studies from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, MA in Human Rights, Globalisation and Justice at Keele University, and a LLM in International Law and Human Rights at the University of Birmingham. His thesis investigates legal approaches to children’s right to physical and mental integrity in the context of intersex genital modification in Australia. Wisdom's research interests relate to international human rights law and modification of children’s sex characteristics, including male and female genital cutting, genital modification of children with intersex variations, and gender affirmation procedures.
